The ATVET Upgrading Project strengthened the capacity of LRC Foundation to deliver high-quality, market-oriented Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) by modernizing training delivery, expanding digital learning, and enhancing the skills of agricultural trainers. Implemented between 2021 and 2023, the project developed and integrated eight competency-based training modules into LRC’s curriculum, trained 10 trainers, reached 280 trainees, and rolled out the training programme to five Agricultural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) institutions across Kenya. The project also established a modern e-learning and broadcasting system, equipped LRC with digital learning infrastructure, conducted tracer studies using KOBO, contributed to the development of climate change training modules, and facilitated knowledge exchange with regional partners across Africa. These investments strengthened LRC’s ability to deliver blended learning, improve the quality of agricultural skills development, and promote climate-smart, business-oriented agriculture for youth and farming communities.
The project was funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) through the Agribusiness Facility for Africa (ABF) and implemented by LRC Foundation. Key partners included the Kenya School of Agriculture, Baraka Agricultural College, DTI Naivasha, Riat College, and Rodi Technical and Vocational College, which participated in the rollout of the upgraded training programme. The project also fostered regional collaboration through knowledge exchange with partner institutions in other African countries, contributing to the harmonization of modern, business-oriented agricultural training and the promotion of sustainable, climate-resilient agribusiness education across the region.
